Complete Packing Materials Checklist

Boxes are only the beginning—prepare the tools that make packing faster and safer.

Prepare cartons in several sizes, packing tape, a dispenser, labels, markers, wrapping paper and bubble wrap. Keep a penknife available for resizing and unpacking.

Protection for special items

Use stretch wrap for drawers and grouped items, large-bubble wrap for extra cushioning, and loose fill for irregular parcel gaps.

Set up a packing station

Keep supplies together in one clear area. Label each carton by room and priority as soon as it is closed.

Can I use large boxes for books?

It is safer to use compact boxes because books become very heavy before a large carton is full.

How do I stop items moving inside a box?

Fill gaps with paper, bubble wrap or loose fill and test gently for movement before sealing.

Should every carton be labelled?

Yes. Mark the destination room, a contents summary and unpacking priority on the top and at least one side.

Can packing materials be reused?

Clean, undamaged cartons and cushioning can often be reused when they still provide adequate protection.
